This person will pair data-driven, scientific methodology with a customer-centric attitude to develop and support Oakley’s best-in-class products. The Sr. Product Development Engineer is responsible for the industrialization of product and production processes by identifying business needs, driving technical decisions, analyzing production capabilities while adhering to efficiency and quality goals for the most robust manufacturing possible.



  • Responsible for development and implementation of new products from proof of concept to successful manufacturing release
  • Facilitate integration of new production processes that are in-line with quality, cost, efficiency and fulfillment targets
  • Provide innovative solutions to overall industry challenges as well as initiate continuous improvement and cost reduction projects
  • Develop and manage project plans including scope, schedule and capital/operational investments
  • Coach and drive cross-functional team members to execute according to schedule including the technical facilitation of design reviews, process mapping, data reviews and DOE sessions
  • Track and communicate project status to applicable stakeholders
  • Management of uncertainty and risk by having contingency plans and driving the decision making process
  • Application of technical fundamentals across multiple technologies using process controls and lean manufacturing methods
  • Create and revise engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal customers
  • Limited travel to global manufacturing facilities is required depending on project



  • BS in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to learn and use new technical information quickly and effectively is a must
  • Self-starter who is able to work with minimal supervision, prioritize work and have a sense of urgency to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with ability to interface effectively with coworkers ranging from senior vice presidents to product assembly teams
  • Ability to guide/coach team members
  • Lead large cross-functional projects alone
  • Skilled in risk assessment and decision-making looking at the business needs
  • Ability to diagnose and perform defect analysis, offer technical solutions or experiment to solve challenging issues
  • Proficient in MS Office, MS Project



  • Previous project management experience
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Kaizen, 6-Sigma, JIT, ergonomics, etc.
  • Solid understanding of basic optics, polymer science
  • Solid background in DOE, preferably in manufacturing of plastics, organic resins, and coatings
  • Familiarity with SAP and PLM software, JMP or Minitab, AutoCAD, SolidWorks (or other CAD)
  • Bilingual – English + Spanish, Chinese or Italian
  • Familiar with Oakley brand/product
  • Passion for life outside of work – cycling, mountain biking, motocross, surfing, musician, photography, etc.
