GENERAL FUNCTION

Sr. Manager of R&D will lead the development of new products and technologies within a given functional area; considering brand/customer requirements and short-term strategic vision. Responsibilities include driving consumer centric design and innovation, leading technical team, managing project executions, and licensing/acquisition of new technologies that can be incorporated into the company's current and future products. Leader has unique ability to take and manage risks to help drive disruptive innovations, technologies and products in Oakley product lines.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Inspires passion for cutting-edge innovations with Oakley brand and with partners and consumers
  • Drive inception of new and innovative technology, components, processes, materials and concepts into finished product based on functional area. (Eyewear, Goggles, Helmets, Apparel and Accessories)
  • Lead a team of engineers who will develop high quality innovative products and meet project timelines and budgets, while maintaining an innovative mindset
  • Partner with global R&D team to share and drive collaborative innovation across the organization and product brands
  • Ensures technical execution of projects are aligned with performance, features, cost and timing goals and correctly delivered to cross-functional partners
  • Works with Project Management to track and communicate project status to applicable cross functional teams
  • Initiate communication with potential technology business partners, develop JDA’s, and execute NDA’s
  • Work with Product Marketing, Sports Marketing, Design/Product to teach/show them technology opportunities that solve consumer problems
  • Responsible for management and execution of R&D budget
  • Creates, establishes and continuously uses effective communication channels to ensure the team is aware of all-relevant design, product and business issues
  • Drive all R&D aspects of Intellectual Property to ensure Freedom to operate, working with lawyers, designers/architects/scientists, as required, to write/submit patentable inventions

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field
  • 8+ or more years of product design/engineering experience
  • 5 or more years leadership experience with proven track record of driving results through others
  • Travel up to 25% of the time both domestic and international
  • Innovative mindset, unafraid and inspired to bring something new to space, simple and fast approach to innovating, fail fast – learn faster.
  • Attention to detail, self-starter and works well under pressure
  • Problem solving and analytical skills (both quant. and qual.)
  • Anticipate challenges/ opportunity and gain alignment with critical areas of the business to drive a cohesive strategy for the organization
  • Strongly analytical; ability to extract conclusions from available data
  • Strong presentation and communication skills (verbal, written, visual, listening)—inclusive of all audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to manage up, down, and across
  • Knowledge of polymers, metals, advanced materials, plastics process, injection molding, rapid prototyping, physical and field testing

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

MBA and/or Advanced Technical Degrees

10+ Years in Consumer Products

10+ Leadership experience

Experience interfacing international partners

Provide technical product leadership coupled with equally effective project management skills.

Ability to think long term and across enterprise showing firm business awareness, critical analysis, integration of information, and ability to develop an action oriented plan
