GENERAL FUNCTION

The Sr. Test Engineer is a critical member of the Vision Performance Lab (VPL) team, creating experiments and testing processes to ensure product performance requirements are met and drive optimal product performance.  Primary responsibilities include planning of product testing and delivering effective recommendations for solutions. 

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Applies scientific and engineering principles to product or process development
  • Performs research into the mechanical, optical, structural or chemical performance of existing or potential product materials
  • Designs or refines prototype products, components, fixtures
  • Creates and develops production processes and trains others in their execution
  • Works in multi-functional project teams to ensure Oakley eyewear achieves the highest performance standards
  • Develops and implements reliability analysis, validation and assessment methods to support new product introductions
  • Creates and executes experiments to evaluate product performance and make recommendations
  • Performs root cause analysis for failures which occurred during reliability testing and/or real-world usage
  • Writes reports summarizing the research objective, methodology used, results, conclusions and/or recommendations
  • Develops or modifies existing test methods and trains others in their execution
  • Writes detailed work instructions for production or test protocols
  • Present experimental results to R&D team members
  • Monitors the work of junior staff to ensure that correct procedures are followed
  • Executes project tasks under limited guidance

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS degree in engineering, physical science or a similar technical Engineering Degree (e.g., material or polymer science)
  • 5+ years’ experience in research, development, and/or manufacturing of products using plastics, composites, or metal alloys
  • Laboratory or field testing of consumer products experience, desired.
  • Strong Project Management experience
  • Proven experience in regularly applying statistical analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to execute testing procedures and apply results to solve practical problems and support continuous improvement
  • Superior skills in communicating technical information both orally and in writing
  • Detail oriented, strong organization skills, time management (timelines), and deadline driven.
  • Must be professionally agile and very comfortable partnering up, down and across a complex business

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree/PhD in Engineering, Design, human sciences or related
  • Passion for Oakley products and for innovation and performance
