The Associate Engineer is responsible for developing all new eyewear components through Oakley Development Phases 2, 1, and 0.  Beginning with requests and input from the Creative and Product teams, create new component colors, patterns, graphics, and other decoration treatments.  Once aesthetic targets are achieved, procure and engineer these into fully functional components.  Validate their form, fit, and function through initial builds and performance testing resulting in a new fully vetted finished product ready for manufacturing.



  • Ownership of all duties required to fully qualify new components: form, fit, function, schedule, cost
  • Develop components to meet all requirements for make and buy components
  • Create new component documentation, update drawings, create APQP packet, and kickoff supplier
  • Procure samples from internal and external suppliers to confirm aesthetic and functional requirements are achieved
  • Procure quantities for pre-production validation runs
  • Ownership of RCCM (root cause counter measure) in development, pre-production NPI, performance testing, and action items at cross functional visual board meeting
  • Continuous Improvement project management
  • Other duties and responsibilities



  • S. in Industrial, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Minimum 1 year experience in product development or post release project management
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing techniques (injection molding, assembly techniques and tools)
  • Project management skills (ability to build schedules and prioritize)
  • Knowledge of general surface treatment techniques (painting, plating, pad-printing, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of Lean tools and principles (VSM, SIPOC, Kaizen, Visual Management, RCCM, etc.)
  • Knowledge of general performance testing (environmental, mechanical, optical, etc.)
  • Hands on experience with injection molding manufacturing
  • Previous consumer product development/manufacturing experience
  • Previous eyewear development/manufacturing experience
  • Experience using SAP, 3D Drafting Software, PLM
