This Engineer- Product is responsible for the strategic selection of vendors for new components. Driving our T4 (Table for four: Engineering, Quality, Sourcing, Purchasing/Planning) identifying business needs, analyzing potential suppliers, validating supplier technical and capacity capabilities, and platform/part qualifications. In addition, lead continuous process improvement projects to reduce NVA and BVA activities within our product development processes.


  • T4 technical leadership: guide the team using knowledge of technologies, capabilities, limitations, and cost
  • Developing and implementing T4 infrastructure: request process, meeting cadence, visual boards, audit criteria/documentation, qualification plans
  • Lead technical validation during supplier audits: technical capabilities, equipment, capacity, lead time
  • Use Lean tools to continuously improve product development processes
  • Technical liaison for Make vs. Buy decisions for new technologies for RnD and Product team requests
  • Develop business case for insourcing decisions: technical feasibility, equipment specification, risk assessment, cost analysis
  • Monitor and report on engineering activities associated with qualification of new components vs. deadlines
  • Drive engineering recovery plans in conjunction with Component and Design Engineers to drive on time APQP level changes
  • Interface with upper management and provide needed feedback for important decisions.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with others.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed.


  • B.S. in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • 3+ years’ experience in product or process development
  • Extensive and diverse knowledge of manufacturing techniques (injection molding, assembly techniques and tools)
  • Knowledge of general surface treatment techniques (painting, plating, pad-printing, etc.)
  • Extensive experience using Lean tools and principles (VSM, SIPOC, Kaizen, Visual Management, RCCM, etc.)
  • Knowledge of general performance testing (environmental, mechanical, optical, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, engage in, influence strategic discussions with external suppliers as well as teammates


  • Strong project management skills (PMP is a plus)
  • Hands on experience with injection molding manufacturing
  • Previous consumer product development/manufacturing experience
  • Previous eyewear development/manufacturing experience
  • Experience using SAP, 3D Drafting Software, PLM
