Manage all in-house injection mold tooling for Frames and Lens Blanks. Responsible for plastic injection tool builds including, planning, design, and outsource manufacture in order to meet product specifications. Intimate knowledge of best practice design, construction and operation of injection molds



  • Manage all new injection mold tooling projects
  • Coordinate with other team members as needed during mold qualification, sampling and final part approval
  • Ability to quote large injection mold tooling projects.
  • Involvement in troubleshooting issues with production molds
  • Work with external suppliers on tool management and repairs
  • Develop outside tooling sources as needed
  • Coordinate mold design reviews with tool vendors, team members and Design Engineering
  • Participate in internal mold design reviews with Design Engineering
  • Coordinate tool repair activity as needed
  • Identify root cause and develop corrective actions when cosmetic, dimensional and/or functional issue arise
  • Recommend and assist with spare parts inventories
  • Recommend and assist with Preventive Maintenance Work Instructions
  • Coordinate implementation of cost effective tool design changes
  • Involvement in DFM/FMEA activities both internally and with customers
  • Provide status reports to management and customers as needed
  • Provide support to Tool Room Supervisor as needed
  • Experience with building and/or designing optical injection molding lens tooling



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 4+ years of experience with plastic injection molds, qualification, debug, vendor selection
  • Well organized, enthusiastic, high energy, strong work ethic
  • Proficient with SolidWorks
  • Ability to design tooling and moderately complex part changes.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Work, Excel, Outlook)
  • Self-confident and comfortable with ambiguity. Relies on experience to make expert recommendations
  • Proficient at reading and understanding mold drawings / designs
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Motivated, self-starter, analytical skills, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
  • Initiative and proactive behavior in work environment.
  • Ability to work more than 8-hours a day, weekends and holidays as needed



  • Tool making certificate working in die cast or plastic injection molding
  • Lens tooling experience
  • SAP or other CMMS experience.
  • Experience with 3D Modeling
  • Creo and/or SolidWorks experience
  • Lean Six Sigma Manufacturing training
  • Project Management experience
