The Oakley UX team is committed to providing clear human powered insights to transform our products. The Sr UX Researcher/Designer learns how Oakley’s athletes and consumers use our products by leading projects to identify problem statements and unmet needs. The Sr UX Researcher/Designer understands the business objectives and project scope and determines the appropriate tools to implement during research to optimize the research ROI. The Sr UX Researcher/Designer will work alongside the UX team and lead the efforts in unboxing information to turn the data into categories, groups, and themes. Will then use tools like textual and visual analysis to translate understanding of user behavior and needs into insights and observations that are then integrated into the broader functions to help create the unexpected.


  • Distill project goals to plan and design user research, including developing discussion guides, interviews, focus groups, survey objectives and design, and persona creation.
  • Plans, designs, and conducts rigorous in-person usability testing and ethnographic research.
  • Carries out research based on analytics, including competitive product benchmark and heuristic evaluations.
  • Creates data driven research reports including user profiles, day-in-the-life scenarios, workflows and use case documents to help deepen organizational understanding of our users.
  • Work with designers, product managers and engineers to understand key initiatives and roadmaps to prioritize research. Facilitate team working sessions.
  • Presents summarized research results directly to the innovation and design teams for discussion and future implementation.
  • Provides design suggestions based on observation, research, insights, and expertise.
  • Work directly with cross functional executives to optimize research timing and efforts.
  • If an existing research method doesn’t work, then the Sr UX Researcher/Designer will invent a new research method.
  • Other duties and responsibilities, as needed.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Statistics, Industrial Design, Anthropology, Human Factor or related field.
  • 7+ years’ experience in physical product development, user experience, consumer insights and strategic planning.
  • Experience championing the voice of the customer - generating user insights, translating insights into feature requirements, conducting rigorous evaluations, and communicating findings to stakeholders
  • Exceptional behavioral data-collection and analysis skills
  • Exceptional analytical, reporting, and presentation skills to educate internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts clearly and persuasively across diverse audiences at various levels of an organization
  • Ability to excel in a fast paced agile environment, adapts to shifting urgencies, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to evaluate processes and recommend changes which result in a greater opportunity for goal achievement, enhanced usage or increased efficiency
  • Outdoor gear expertise including knowledge of goggles, eyewear, helmets, or performance apparel, highly desired.
  • Ability to travel for research activities


  • Master’s / PhD preferred.
